Last month, Red Dog Press closed its doors. The month before that, Sandstone Press collapsed into liquidation with rights subsequently sold on. The result of small presses going under can be devastating. Authors (and other creditors) may not get paid. Rights to books can be auctioned off forcing authors into business relationships they never envisioned. The knock-ons can have a lasting impact. Series get orphaned, works in progress wasted.
